What God Taught Me After I Was Scammed: Learning to Trust His Voice

After losing money in an online scam, I learned a powerful lesson about listening to the Holy Spirit and trusting God’s voice. This is my testimony of grace, growth, and…

A woman sitting by a window in prayer at sunrise, reflecting quietly, with text that reads “What God Taught Me After I Was Scammed: Learning to Trust His Voice.”

Good Morning,

It’s 2:32 in the morning, and I pray you have a blessed day in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Since I found out last week that I had gotten a job, it has been hard for me to concentrate on my own work and my to-do list. My mind was filled with excitement, mixed with nervousness and uncertainty.

After a few days, there were delays in starting my training. Then they said I needed to purchase secure software and a Mac Pro laptop, along with a few other devices. Even though they claimed they would reimburse me, something deep inside felt off.

Why would I really need all of these things?

When Excitement Overpowered Discernment

I should have listened to the Holy Spirit’s gentle guidance in this situation. But my need for employment overpowered those quiet warnings. Then they sent two e-checks that were placed on hold for six days—and never cleared.

That was a clear sign. But I dismissed it, thinking maybe I was wrong. I needed this job so badly that I ignored the warning bells that kept ringing. I told myself I was just being cautious because I had been scammed before.

Long story short, they ended up getting $391.00 from me.

To some people, that may not seem like much. But to someone on a tight budget, that was my bill money. That was all I had.

From Regret to Restoration

As I wrestled with worry and regret, I asked the Lord to forgive me for not listening to His small, sweet voice through the Holy Spirit. And I chose to trust Him to work everything out for good.

Maybe by sharing my story, I can give someone hope—that even when we make mistakes, we can ask for forgiveness and still choose to trust God.

I can’t wait to see how the Lord will work this out in my life.

Last night, I struggled until I finally surrendered it all to Father God, Lord Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. This morning, I feel a peace that wasn’t there before.

I am far from perfect. Some people may call me naïve. Some may say I’m simple-minded. But I am just me—still learning, still growing, still leaning on the Lord to help me through my messes, and still growing in my relationship with Him.

If you’ve ever been in a situation where deep down you knew something wasn’t right—and you chose not to listen—you are not alone.

Jesus knew this would happen before we did. And He loves us anyway.

Ask Him to forgive you. Ask Him to bring something beautiful out of your mess. He is faithful to do it.

Scripture

“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose.”
— Romans 8:28 (KJV)

Prayer

Heavenly Father,
Thank You for Your mercy, Your grace, and Your unfailing love. Thank You for never giving up on us, even when we miss Your gentle warnings. Lord, forgive us for the times we lean on our own understanding instead of trusting You completely.

Heal every place of disappointment, regret, and loss. Restore what has been taken. Replace worry with peace, and fear with faith. Help us to grow wiser, stronger, and more discerning as we walk with You.

We place every mistake, every concern, and every need into Your hands. We trust You to work all things together for good. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
